This is one of the most important times of the year in the life of a true Christian. It reveals the love of our God for us as individuals, personally. We have a personal God that has a one-on-one relationship with each of us as His children. When you truly understand the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, you then understand the love of God for each and everyone in this world. He died for you personally so your sins can be forgiven by Him. "In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him." 1 John 4:9. He desires us to live forever because He loves us as His children—each of us as a separate child of God. If there were no one else in the world but you and me who were sinner, Jesus would have to die for us, just as He did for all humanity.
That is how God showed His love for us. He allowed His only begotten Son to die for you, so through that death our past sins, and only our past sins, could be expiated, erased, cleansed to never be remembered again. Jesus was our propitiation for our sins. He was our atonement for the sins we have committed. The reason He allowed His Son to be crucified for us is so we can live forever as His children in the Family of God—life in a universe where we will be responsible to take care of and to repair all the damage done by the rebellion of Satan and his minions. "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." Eph 2:4-7
We are able to live forever by the mercy of God and His love for us as individuals. Remember, He chose you personally because of His love for you, not because you are anything special. It is about Him and His Son, not because of what we were but what we can be in the future. He called us for a purpose so that in the Kingdom everyone will take care of his or her position necessary to make the Kingdom a true Paradise for all mankind. "But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased." 1 Cor 12:18. Remember, life is not about the past. It is about the future. That is why God's plan is not about what we have done in the past, it is about our future life.
It’s not a life of, "rolling around heaven all day" as the old hymn says but about a life of work, joy, happiness of living forever in the Family of God—a time of real life, not of the world we live in today which is a life of temporary uplift, instant joy which later produces a life of misery and pain. It is a temporary bliss, but when we sin a lifetime of pain that is hard to forget causing us to think of the past not the future. "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Heb 9:14
It is living a life of guilt for past sins which can bring occasional grief and can cause someone to think they can hide from God. God wants us to come to Him in a repentant attitude. That is not what we should concentrate on—those things in the past that may be bothering us. Those thing we need to repent of, not dwell on. Life is about the future and what God has in store for us. That is why the first things we were asked to do prior to baptism were to repent and to believe the gospel. Repentance is a way of life for a Christian, the only path to the true life of eternal joy forever.
